Mission
The Commission on Pan-Methodist Cooperation
shall work to define, determine, plan, and in cooperation
with established agencies of the several denominations, execute
activities to foster meaningful cooperation among the four
Methodist denominations in the collaborations. Such cooperation
shall include, but not be limited to, evangelism, missions,
publications, social concerns, and higher education."
The Commission on Union was established
in 1996 General Conferences of the Pan-Methodist Denominations
for the purpose of
- Continuing the work of the Study Commission established
in 1994
- Preparing a Plan of Union in order that the wounds resulting
from our past divisions may be healed and that together
we may have a more effective witness in the global community
as well as be good stewards of our God-given resources
- Submitting the Plan of Union to the General Conferences
of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, the African Methodist
Episcopal Zion Church, and in The United Methodist Church
in the year 2000, and the Christian Methodist Episcopal
Church in the year 2002.
The Commission on Pan-Methodist Cooperation and
Union
The 2000 General Conference approved the merger of
the Commission on Pan-Methodist Cooperation and the Commission
on Union with the responsibility to carry on the work of the
two previous separate commissions.
Mission Statement
As members of the family of Methodism,
we are called to move toward union by redefining and strengthening
our relationships in Jesus Christ.
